Adding injury to insult over the EU referendum

The conviction and optimism that informed the launch of the Left’s Vote In campaign -organised by Another Europe is Possible, Varoufakis’s DiEm25, and sponsored by Open Democracy– were heartening.

Still, my sense remains that this referendum is an affront rather than a concession!

An affront because we are being asked a question we are not qualified to answer. To add injury to insult we are being fed a load of contradictory and misleading nonsense to con us into picking a side.

But one thing is clear (at least to me). The most potent issue in the referendum – immigration – has been badly mishandled. I accuse the Left of having toxified it so it can’t be rationally discussed. On the OpenDemocracy website:
